My travels in the Baltic region took me to Lithuania and Latvia in August 2025. I visited Vilnius and Kaunas in Lithuania and Riga in Latvia—three cities that belong in the same broader journey, but not in a single interchangeable story.
Lithuania: Vilnius and Kaunas
Vilnius and Kaunas are both part of my Lithuania chapter. When I think about building this site country by country, they are a good example of why a capital city should not become a substitute for the rest of a country. Different places bring different encounters and experiences.
Latvia: Riga
Riga forms a separate part of the journey and gets its own country page in the World Project. My photographs and notes from the city will eventually provide the detail for a fuller account, including the places and views that I want to remember.
Two countries, one wider journey
There is a practical temptation to group neighboring countries into one quick travel post. That can be useful for recounting a trip, but I also want each destination to have a permanent home. Lithuania and Latvia are two countries in my tally, and each deserves space for its own places, histories and impressions.
The next chapters
As I organize more of my personal images and videos, this account will expand. For now, it is a starting point for two country stories that I want to tell with greater detail.
