Sal and Santa Maria: My Cabo Verde Journey
Sal Island in October 2024
In October 2024, I traveled to Sal in Cabo Verde, spending time around Santa Maria. The trip added an Atlantic island to my travel history after years of experiences in Europe and South America.
Cabo Verde belongs to the wider Portuguese-speaking world that first interested me through Portugal and Brazil. Shared language is one thread connecting those journeys, but it doesn’t make the places interchangeable. I want this chapter to reflect Sal as I experienced it, not just repeat the familiar resort imagery.
